All about that vacation life

I’ve been wanting to talk about my vacation for a while and I figured what better time than now? I’ll be gone in less than 2 months so why not talk about it now? Compared to vacation last year, this one is extremely different but something fun I’ve been waiting for.

Last year, I went to Disneyland with my boyfriend for a week. It was easily my favorite vacation ever and will be hard to top. This year, I’ll be going on an Alaskan cruise with my parents for their 25th wedding anniversary.

To be honest, I’m a little bit nervous. The main reason is that I’ve never been on a cruise before and it’ll kind of be like my parents and I are in two separate worlds. I’ll be in a regular room, no balcony while they’ll be staying in a balcony suite. It’s going to be a little nerve-wracking trying to figure it all out, but I’m hoping I can learn quickly.

Beyond that, I’m actually pretty excited to go. We’ll be doing land and sea and I’ll be doing one excursion. For those who don’t know what an excursion is, it’s when you get off the boat and do an activity. The one we’ll be doing together is the dog sledding and musher camp. That’s my only excursion and my parents are doing two others. Both are early in the morning and I’m not a morning person.

Most of my time will probably be spent on the ship or exploring Alaska. I’ve never been to Alaska before so I’m excited to explore. I’m going to make sure to take a lot of pictures and keep a travel journal. It’s going to be my first-time travel journaling too so I can’t wait to start on that.

In addition to exploring Alaska, there’s a lot of fun activities on the ship. From what I’ve seen, there are classes to take, shows to attend, movies to watch and games to play. There are also casinos, night clubs, bars and a reading/library area. The two I’m most looking forward to is the library and the shows.

To get to Alaska, we have to take a flight from Baltimore to Seattle. I’ve flown that far before so I’m not nervous at all. In preparation for the flight, I’ve been slowly buying books to take on the plane. The flight’s roughly 6 hours and right now, I have 3 books I’m definitely taking.

I’m taking Black Boy White School by Brian F. Walker, A Season Of Daring Greatly by Ellen Emerson White and The Smell Of Other People’s Houses by Bonnie-Sue Hitchcock so far. I don’t think I’m bringing my laptop or my mom’s tablet so I’ll probably just end up reading physical copies. I’ve purchased them on eBay so I’m able to get cheap copies and I couldn’t be happier.

I might look into some audio books too so if you have any suggestions, feel free to leave them below. Right now, I’m getting a few things settled and trying to figure out my work schedule, luggage and shopping for a few new outfits. I’m really looking forward to the trip and can’t wait to share more the closer it gets and when I come back.

The sad thing is I’ll miss some football but I think my room has a TV and I should be able to watch some football at least. Regardless, the NFL will have to suck it up and deal with not having my attention for once lol.

If anyone has been to Alaska or is from there, I’d love to hear your tips on what to do, places to check out and anything else you think. Even if you’re not, I’d love to hear some traveling tips, cruise tips or really anything. 🙂
